Rolling Stone's Cherry Lane Residency: Tickets for Miles

The Rolling Stone Residency is a six-night series of live interviews and stripped-down performances that Rolling Stone (the magazine, not the band) is staging across 2026 at Cherry Lane Theatre in New York's West Village. Two shows in, the auctions have already swung from 501,000 miles last observed on one lot to a 20,000-mile instant buy a month later. Here is what the first rounds taught us.

What the Rolling Stone Residency is

Each night pairs a live Rolling Stone Interview, a 30-minute on-stage conversation with a Rolling Stone editor, with a stripped-down set from the same artist. The venue is the point: Cherry Lane, in the West Village, is one of New York's oldest continuously operating off-Broadway theaters, a small house for artists who normally fill far bigger rooms.

Sara Bareilles opened the series on June 11, 2026, and J Balvin took the second night on July 9. Further dates were announced for September 22, October 21, and November 12, with one more night unannounced as of this writing in July 2026. Artists are revealed only weeks before each show.

There is no ordinary box office. Tickets flow through limited releases for Rolling Stone readers and through Delta SkyMiles Experiences, where members bid miles or, on some lots, redeem them outright.

How the Delta auctions have worked

Both rounds we tracked followed the same playbook:

• Lots opened about three weeks out and closed roughly a week before showtime. The June 11 lots ran May 21 to June 4; the July 9 lots opened in mid-June and closed July 2.

• Each round had two separate auction lots of two tickets apiece, identically titled. In June the two closed a few minutes apart; in July they shared a close time. Either way you bid on one pair, not both.

• The package covered two tickets, seats for the interview and performance, and limited-edition merch. Guests must be 21 or older, and no meet-and-greet is included.

• For the July show, Delta also listed fixed-price lots at 20,000 miles, a tickets-only version and a dinner-and-show version.

Mechanics are standard SkyMiles Experiences: 1,000-mile increments, proxy bidding up to your maximum, a soft close that adds about five minutes when a late bid lands, and bids that are final once placed. What the Cherry Lane lots reached

One caveat before the numbers. Delta does not publish confirmed winning prices, so every figure below is the bid we last observed before close, not a verified final. Contested lots can keep climbing after our last look, so read these as floors.

The swing between the first two shows is the real lesson:

• June 11, Sara Bareilles: 501,000 and 335,000 miles last observed on the two lots, which drew 85 bids apiece. Only 15 of the 228 closed Delta auctions in our archive (as of July 2026) have reached 85 or more bids; the average Delta lot draws about 34.

• July 9, J Balvin: 38,000 and 34,000 miles last observed, on 17 and 13 bids, with those 20,000-mile fixed-price lots sitting alongside.

Same theater, same package, last-observed prices roughly ten times apart. The artist reveal is everything, and because names drop only weeks ahead, each round is a brand-new market. In our tracking, a marquee name behaves like a different auction entirely: June's two lots both cleared 85 bids, a level fewer than 1 in 15 Delta lots reach, while July's cooled back below the Delta average. Rounds have surfaced about three weeks before each show, so lots for any remaining 2026 night should appear on that rhythm.

Three takeaways follow from the first two rounds:

1. Set your ceiling before the artist announcement. The reveal is the difference between a 34,000-mile close and a 501,000-mile one, and it lands exactly when you will be bidding.

2. Check for 20,000-mile fixed-price lots first. In the July round they were the value play by a wide margin; if you simply want in the room, the certain price beats the auction.

3. Let the proxy bid fight for you. Sniping just resets the soft-close clock; enter a true maximum and walk away.
