How United MileagePlus Exclusives auctions work
MileagePlus Exclusives (exclusives.mileageplus.com) is United's marketplace for spending miles on experiences instead of seats, and it runs two formats side by side: auctions you win by bidding miles, and fixed-price Redeem Now lots debited immediately on redemption. The split is roughly even in our archive, and United tends to run a handful of big experiential auctions at a time rather than a deep always-on catalog.
Auctions use proxy bidding - United's system increases your bid on your behalf, using only as much of your maximum as required to keep you winning. Any bid placed in the last minute extends the auction by an additional minute, so there is no sniping; auctions end when bidding genuinely stops. Bids are legally binding, miles are debited at the close, and if your balance is short when an auction ends, the lot goes to the next highest bidder.
United's signature lots are the ones it alone can offer, led by the recurring flight-simulator package at its Denver Flight Training Center. How do United MileagePlus Exclusives auctions work?
You enter a maximum in miles and United's proxy system bids for you, only as high as needed to keep you in front. A bid in the last minute extends the auction by another minute, bids are binding, and miles are debited at the close - if your balance is short when the auction ends, the lot passes to the next highest bidder.
How much do United MileagePlus auctions usually go for?
Most United lots clear in the mid five figures to low six figures of miles, with the famous flight-simulator packages as genuine outliers well above that. The results data on this page shows the actual closes, most of them winning bids we verified after the auction ended. Anchor on the typical range, not the headline lot.
Which credit cards transfer to United MileagePlus?
Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards both transfer to United MileagePlus at 1:1. United also runs a rail of cardholder-only events that require a qualifying Chase United card to book, separate from the transfer question.
Can I snipe a United auction at the last second?
No. United's terms state that any bid placed in the last minute extends the auction by an additional minute, so a late bid just restarts the clock for everyone. Auctions end when bidding stops, which rewards an honest early maximum over fast reflexes.
