I've been doing some research into how and if auction closing prices exist on the internet - short answer is 'no'. It's like loyalty programs don't want you to know what items closed for. Take, for instance, Delta. Out of the 19 loyalty programs we track, pulling the closing price of items for 17 of them was pretty straightforward - no fuss.

Delta, however, is special - in the "bless their heart" kind of definition of "special". As many programs do, Delta extends auctions if there is a bid in the final 5 minutes. However - unique to Delta, when the auction actually closes, their page immediately flips to not show the final, closing bid. Most programs will show the final closing bid for at least a few minutes after the auctions close. Delta said "nah shawty don't play".

I'm a data nerd - I know that auction prices typically bump up by double-digit percent in the final few minutes of a listing. Having actual final closing price data opens up some options in the future - so, after some back and forth with Claude, the site now tracks verified closing prices for Delta auctions.

It's College Football Saturday season, and the auctions scale to just about any balance you've got. On the low end there's a Mizzou vs. Kansas pair sitting at 20,000 points as I write this (with two identical packages posted), and on the marquee end an Oklahoma vs. Michigan showdown drawing the bidders who know these auctions exist. Same sport, wildly different point counts - pick your lane.

Notable closes this week

A busy week of closes across the board - the standout being a New York Yankees vs. Baltimore game with Delta SKY360 suite tickets that pulled 58 bids on its way to 254,000 points. Not a sports fan? A 4-night wellness retreat at The Ranch Hudson Valley went all the way to 465,000 points on 100 bids, and a chef's counter seat at Somni in LA closed too.
