Also known as the Italian Open, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia takes place at the iconic Foro Italico along the banks of the Tiber River in Rome. With the top ATP and WTA players on tour in attendance, it is one of the most important clay tennis tournaments in the world. First held in Milan in 1930, the Internationali BNL d’Italia gained open status in 1969 and became an ATP Championship Series Single Week tournament in 1990. Today it is one of the three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events contested on clay. It is also where Rafael Nadal has emerged with the men’s singles title for a record ten times.
