About Chef Lee Wolen Chef Lee Wolen, a Cleveland native, trained at Moto and Butter in Chicago and in Europe at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons and El Bulli before spending three years as Sous Chef at Eleven Madison Park in New York; he returned to Chicago in 2012 to lead The Peninsula's Lobby to a Michelin star, then in 2014 became Executive Chef/Partner of Boka — earning five James Beard "Best Chef: Great Lakes" nominations and Chicago Tribune/Eater Chicago's 2014 Chef of the Year honor while Boka held a Michelin star from 2011 to 2025 — before opening Alla Vita in 2021 (nominated for the World Culinary Awards' North America's Best New Restaurant) and, this year, the first brick-and-mortar location of GG's Chicken Shop, named for his mother; he lives with his wife and two kids and spends free time fishing and playing basketball around the Midwest.
